Principal's Message

Welcome to Harlan Community Elementary School—where we are proud to be Cyclones and even prouder to be a place where high expectations and a family atmosphere go hand in hand. Whether you're a returning member of our school community or new to the district, we are excited to partner with you in your child’s educational journey.

At Harlan Community Elementary, we hold ourselves to the highest standards—academically, socially, and emotionally. We are committed to ensuring that every student is supported, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential in a caring and inclusive environment. Our school may be built on strong academic foundations, but it truly thrives because of the family feel that makes students feel safe, respected, and valued.

We are proud to offer rigorous and research-based curricula. In literacy, we use Amplify/CKLA, a comprehensive program that builds strong foundational reading skills, deepens knowledge across content areas, and fosters a lifelong love of reading. In math, we utilize Illustrative Mathematics, a high-quality, standards-based curriculum that promotes problem-solving, conceptual understanding, and mathematical reasoning at every grade level.

Equally important to us is our focus on students' social and emotional development. Harlan Community Elementary is proud to be a high-performing Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH) school. Capturing Kids’ Hearts is a relationship-centered approach that equips teachers and students with tools to build trust, create meaningful connections, and foster a safe learning environment. Through strategies like daily greetings, social contracts, and reflective communication, CKH helps strengthen our school culture and supports the development of leadership and empathy in every Cyclone.
