- Our class became interested in the Matinicus Rock
Lighthouse located off the coast of Maine after reading Keep the Lights Burning, Abbie.
We researched more about Abbie's life and the lighthouse where she lived as a girl.
Two of our favorite books are listed below along with a great Reading Rainbow video.
We hope you enjoy reading our class collaborative poem about lighthouses.

- The Most Important Thing
about a Lighthouse
A lighthouse
Shines lights to help guide ships through the night,
Uses horns to guide them through the fog,
Warns boats to stay away from ledges, rocks, and sandbars,
Helps ships find their way near the shore, and
Protects boats and ships so they can travel safely in the water.
But
the most important thing about a lighthouse is
It keeps the sailors in the ships safe.
